Western Sydney Academy Rugby League Program

Overview

The Western Sydney Academy of Sport’s Rugby League Program provides development opportunities for talented young rugby league players in the western Sydney region. In partnership with NSW Rugby League (NSWRL), and the Penrith and Parramatta District Clubs, the program provides development opportunities for local junior players, enabling athletes to compete in representative competitions for Under 16 (Harold Matthews Shield) and Under 18 (SG Ball Cup).

 

Program at a Glance

In partnership with the Penrith and Parramatta NRL Clubs, the Academy Program brings together the two squads for a period of 12 weeks to obtain technical skill development, competition and event opportunities. The Academy Program comprises of a strong coaching and training staff structure resourced by both NRL Clubs, with teams competing against traditional NRL Club junior representative sides.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Academy Rugby League Program, athletes must be:

  • A registered player with a junior Club affiliated with either the Penrith or Parramatta District Rugby Leagues.
  • Currently residing within the Local Government Areas of Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Holroyd, Parramatta,  Penrith or The Hills.

 

Selection Process

Selections will be made by the Penrith and Parramatta Clubs based on their talent identification processes, taking into consideration the athlete’s past and trial match performances.

 

Program Partners

St Marys Rugby League Club provides financial and venue support for the Academy’s Rugby League Program, with all junior representative squad home matches played at the magnificent St Marys Leagues Stadium.
